Afternoon tea at Audrey Needham House with Sureserve Compliance Fire Ltd

A2Dominion’s Social Purpose Team connected Sureserve Compliance Fire Ltd with residents at Audrey Needham House for an afternoon built around baking, conversation and community.

At Audrey Needham House in Newbury, the idea was simple: invite residents together for afternoon tea, spend a few hours in good company, and create an opportunity for people to catch up over freshly baked scones.

Julie Maidment from A2Dominion Social Purpose had already spoken with residents and organised the afternoon. What was still needed was someone with the time, baking skills and a small budget for ingredients to help bring it to life.

The project was posted on A2Dominion’s Match My Project site. Six days later, it was matched with Sureserve Compliance Fire Ltd.

An afternoon built around people

Poppy Hainge, Sureserve’s Head of Social Value, spent the afternoon making fresh scones with residents before everyone sat down together for tea.

What made the afternoon at Audrey Needham House memorable wasn’t the baking or the afternoon tea. It was that A2Dominion Social Purpose recognised an opportunity to bring residents together and found a practical way to make it happen. Through Match My Project, Sureserve Compliance Fire Ltd was able to step in with the support that was needed, allowing a simple idea to become a shared experience for the thirty residents.

For many older people, opportunities to spend time with neighbours can become less frequent over time. Community activities like this offer the chance to meet, talk, laugh and enjoy an afternoon with others in a relaxed setting.

“I always love running these sessions for residents. I’m so glad they continue to enjoy them.”

A business that understands community

Sureserve Compliance Fire Ltd is a trusted partner to housing associations and local authorities, providing compliance and energy services that help keep homes safe, warm and compliant. Alongside that work, the company is committed to creating social value in the communities it serves.

When the opportunity at Audrey Needham House appeared, it stood out as a project that reflected their commitment to community. Relatively small in scale, but capable of making a genuine difference to people’s day.

“Thank you, Poppy and Sureserve Compliance Fire, for delivering a fantastic session with our elderly residents and social value that brings people together.”

Emma McConnell, A2Dominion Social Purpose

The feedback signalled more than a successful activity. Sureserve’s approach left a lasting impression on the team at A2Dominion Social Purpose.

“Sureserve is a trusted supplier who is committed to delivering projects to a very high standard.”

Geraldine Swain, A2Dominion Social Purpose.

For the residents at Audrey Needham House, the scones and tea brought togetherness and a memorable afternoon.
