How a second project with Tilbury Douglas helped keep Aspull Rugby Union Club’s facilities open to its wider community
Aspull Rugby Union Club’s car park serves more than the people who play rugby there. Dog training classes use it, as do a motorcycling club, a keep-fit group, walking groups and a pre-school based on site. With the new season approaching, the club needed to get the car park ready.
Aspull’s volunteers had already been carrying out a programme of internal works, leaving the car park and terracing further down the list. With the season approaching, the club turned to Match My Project for support.
A second project with a local business
Tilbury Douglas, a UK building and infrastructure company with offices close to Aspull RFC, had already worked with the club on a signage project in April 2025.
The car park project gave the two organisations an opportunity to work together again, building on a relationship that had already been established.
A Tilbury Douglas supervisor remained on site throughout the work to keep the project on track and ensure it met the required standards. The team completed the improvements in what Aspull described as “excessive heat,” while still meeting the deadline the club needed ahead of the new season.
More than a car park
For Aspull Rugby Union Club, the work was about keeping the wider site usable for the people and groups who rely on it.
“It really is great to see a local company put something back into the community for the social benefit of all who use our facilities,” said Malcolm Holland of Aspull Rugby Union Club.
“These improvements support three open age teams, a thriving junior and Ladies section, and the many community groups who use our site, from dog training to keep-fit to our on-site pre-school. I cannot thank Tilbury Douglas enough.”
Tilbury Douglas also saw the value in continuing the relationship.
“The rugby club clearly communicated the scope of the works and what support was required. Expectations were well managed from the outset, making it easy to plan and deliver the project successfully. We look forward to working together on future community projects.”

Aspull Rugby Union Club is used by teams, families and community groups throughout the week. Getting the car park ready for the new season means these different groups can continue using the site as planned.
The project also marked the second time Aspull and Tilbury Douglas had worked together. What began with a signage project in 2025 has continued with another contribution to a club that serves people well beyond the rugby pitch.
