But we need changes at a wider policy level to better address the nationwide skills gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, the #KingsSpeech laid out the government\u2019s agenda and commitments for the year ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus on investing in skills and education is encouraging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what the King pledged:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>My Government will establish Skills England which will have a new partnership with employers at its heart, and my Ministers will reform the apprenticeship levy<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a deeper dive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Breaking Down Barriers to Opportunity: Skills England Bill<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The King\u2019s Speech introduced the Skills England Bill which aims to boost skills training and tackle skills shortages to support sustained economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>The Skills England Bill delivers on [the government\u2019s] manifesto commitment to simplify and improve the skills system, ensuring the supply of skills needed for the economy and breaking down barriers to opportunity.<\/em>\u201d &#8211; The King\u2019s Speech <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/6697f5c10808eaf43b50d18e\/The_King_s_Speech_2024_background_briefing_notes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">briefing document<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This plan has threefold objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Developing a single picture of national and local skills needs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identifying the training for which the Growth and Skills Levy will be accessible. This involves ensuring that government-funded training available to learners and employers aligns with skills needs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensuring that the national and regional skills systems are meeting skills needs and are aligned.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Partnership work is at the heart of the government\u2019s plan to build a more resilient and skilled workforce by bringing together businesses, providers, unions, Mayoral Combined Authorities (MCAs) and national government to tackle skills shortages and inequalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We support this strategy. Collaboration between the public, private and voluntary sectors has always been a key part of Match My Project\u2019s approach to facilitating Social Value delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pathways to Work: Aligned with Government Priorities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Pathways to Work feature is already well-positioned to support the goals outlined in the King\u2019s Speech and the formation of Skills England.
